Workshops:

Houseplant Propagation- Tips and Techniques – Whether you’re a new houseplant hobbyist or a long-term addict, this workshop is for you! Join our Trial Garden Manager and houseplant expert, Daedre McGrath, and learn the best methods for propagating all types of houseplants, including cacti, succulents, and foliage plants. Every attendee will make and take a propagation tray of unrooted cuttings (complete with soil and humidity dome) and leave with the know-how to propagate more at home.

C.E. Lewis Arboretum Tour – Join the newest member of the MSU Horticulture Gardens team, Brian Gayheart, for a tour of the Clancy E. Lewis Landscape Arboretum. Discover the variety and diversity of the Arboretum while Brian shares his visions for the largest garden space on campus. Come prepared to walk and learn about maintenance, plant selection, and gardening in mature landscapes.

Getting Creative with Perennial Mixed Containers – Get messy and creative with Perennial Garden Manager, Bethany Troy, in this workshop where we will focus on making beautiful mixed containers with perennials. Learn about styles, plant selections, successes, and failures in our experimentation with combinations over the years. Attendees will put together their own mixed container to take home.

Urban Foraging – Relearn what your great-grandparents might have know about the potentially edible plants found randomly in your yard or neighborhood.  The plants, mostly referred to as weeds by city clickers, can be tasty and nutritious!

Herbal Spa – Harvest time can leave us tired and stressed. Come and learn from our 4-H Educator, Jessica Wright how to use your garden to create spa products for rest and relaxation. Each participant will receive recipes and make samples to take home.

Vintage Tea Cup Cut Flower Arrangement - Join Wedding and Event Planner Katy Lenhardt as she demonstrates how to create your own cut flower arrangement using a vintage tea cup. Participants will discover the best cut flowers to use in your gardens, tips and tricks for floral design at home, and much more. Each participant will take home a unique floral design.

From Botanical Garden to Your Backyard: Design Workshop - Join Matthew Ross as he shares tips, techniques, and design strategies from the world of public horticulture. From a grandiose scale to an approachable garden design, Matthew will help guide you as you come up with the perfect combinations of plants for your own landscape. This workshop will include a hands-on design workshop based on examples from some of the top global gardens.
